All your daily activities emit greenhouse gases. The most well known greenhouse gas is carbon, or CO2. When this gas is released into the atmosphere, it contributes to a change in our climate, known as “global warming”. Too much CO2 in the atmosphere of the Earth causes a rise of the average global temperature. This is a threat to ALL life on the planet.
The average global citizen emits 3.4 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Bamboo acts as a “carbon sink”. This means that it takes CO2 from the air and stores it, preventing it from entering into the atmosphere.
By buying square meters of bamboo you compensate for the greenhouse gases that you emit. Every square meter absorbs (on average) 267,20 kilos of carbon.
A return flight from Amsterdam to Barcelona (economy class) emits 0.4 tonne (400kg) of CO2 per passenger.
Plant bamboo. Improve lives.
By buying square meters of bamboo you directly contribute to the improvement of our community in Uganda. We work with local people to plant and nurse the bamboo, so your contribution creates valuable and fair paid job opportunities.
We use the bamboo that we grow as construction material to build sustainable homes for the poorest people in the Nakasongola district. The bamboo is also used by our bamboo entrepreneurs who turn the bamboo into beautiful, ecofriendly products.
With your support we fight both climate change and poverty!
Disclaimer: Note that buy buying bamboo you are not reducing the amount of CO2 that you emit. The first step towards a more sustainable planet is to reduce your carbon footprint, by actions such as choosing ecofriendlier ways of transportation, travel to destinations closer to home, lower your consumption of meat, isolate your house and buy less clothes. Compensating allows for the investment in projects such as Bamboo Village Uganda, that without your help, would not have been realized.
