Why bamboo?

Bamboo acts as a natural carbon sink: a reservoir that accumulates and stores the CO2 that is emitted by our daily activities. Other important natural carbon sinks are trees and the ocean.

The rapid growth rate of bamboo makes it an affordable and attractive solution for carbon footprint offsetting. Depending on the species planted (there are over 1000 variations of bamboo), bamboo can grow up to 91 centimeters per day!

A bamboo plant can live up to 120 years, depending on the species. Maintenance cost are relatively low and the bamboo plants generate new bamboo shoots after being cut. Offsetting your carbon footprint through bamboo is thus a very sustainable option!

How many kilometers would you like to compensate?

Fill out the amount of kilometers you would like to compensate for. This can be anything, from the amount of kilometers you drive for your holiday, up to all the kilometers you drive in an entire year.

You want to compensate [item-407_value] kilometers made by car. This equals [item-411_price] kilos of CO2.

You'll need [item-410_price] m2 of bamboo to compensate for this.

-------- How is this calculated? --------

Each kilometer by car on average emits 220 grams of CO2. 1m2 of bamboo compensates 267.20 kilos of CO2.

That means that with 1m2 of bamboo you can drive 1214.55 kilometers.

Compensation is always based on whole square meters (rounded up).
